| Forest Hill Park Lake Regatta: May 22nd, 2010 |
Monument Avenue has "Easter on Parade", Carytown has the "Watermelon Festival", Southside has always had the "43rd Street Festival of the Arts". Well foks, it's time to add another day to the calendar when our neighborhood is the greatest place to be! Saturday May 22nd will truly be a day to remember in Southside Richmond. It will culminate a restoration that's been over a decade in the making... our "new" lake in Forest Hill Park.
City officials will be on hand to officially dedicate the new lake, and the Friends of Forest Hill Park will do likewise for the new Harvey Family Memorial Bridge.
Then it's time for "The Regatta"! We'll have a series of paddling events (for all types of paddlers, even the artistic kind), a dog swim race, radio-controlled boat competition, even a friendly competition between our local neighborhood associations to win the coveted "Boscobel Cup" (a custom-designed trophy courtesy of Robin Cage & the 43rd Street Gallery!)
Come out and celebrate our new lake, cheer your favorite paddler, or take the plunge and enter one of the races yourself!
All of the proceeds from this event go right back to Forest Hill Park for beautification and improvements.
A schedule for the day's events is below. If you'd like to paddle, here's the entry form for the event.
